Leben und Sterben der BIENEN: “To bee or not to bee”
“If the bee disappeared off of the surface of the globe then man would only have four more years of life left”, Albert EINSTEIN.
This remark made by one of the most famous figures in history has left an impression on us. Was Einstein predicting the massive extinction of the bees that we are seeing today? The disappearance of the bees is an issue that has been growing in concern over the years. Many bee farms have been reporting that their bees are disappearing, and so far no explanation has been found that can tell us why this is happening. Without the bee, our agricultural industry will cease to exist. Bees are responsible for pollinating many of the plants that humans consme. But unknown to many, the bees are carrying out an even greater task. Bees are actively trying to change and rshape our world, trying to return it to holistic way that mankind has tried to destroy. Here at the Chicago Waldorf School we are honoring the bees by carving out memorials in the stones that commemorate the bee, and the role it has played in shaping our world. Here we honor the bees for theire hard work and we hope that humanity can recognize the state of CRISIS the world is in and help save the bees and ourselves from extinction.
Here are some fotos from our workshop in may 2007:
“You rip up an animal and I study it alive; you turn it into an object of horror and pity, whereas I cause it to be loved; you labor in a torture chamber and dissecting room, I make my observations under the blue sky to the song of the cicades; you subject cell and protoplasma to chemical tests, I study insect life in its loftiest manifestations; you pry into death, I pry into life…I write above all for the young. I want to make them love the natural history which you make them hate; and that is why, while keeping strictly in the domain of truth, I avoid your scientific prose, which too often, alas, seems borrowed from some Iroquois idiom” (Fabre) This text was written by Michael Sanders, 11th Grade, W.S.Chicago
